About the Project

For our client, the permissible noise level of competitions, training sessions and other events is strictly defined by law. It must support its law-abiding behavior with irreproducible, evidentiary logs and hold accountable those teams or competitors who exceed the limits stipulated in the rules, since the noise pollution violates the rights of the surrounding population. During the project, we installed measuring devices and built a system that can receive, store, analyze and interpret the data coming from the devices, and also continuously monitors the fault-free condition of the devices.

The challenge

Public reports are considered cases that must be handled with priority in the life of every racetrack operator. The city of Kerepes is located right between the Hungaroring and the Gödöllő Sports Airport, and of course it is not expected of the whistleblowers to precisely determine the source of the noise they are experiencing. The racetrack operator on the other hand must know with complete certainty whether the noise really came from the area of the infrastructure it operates, or whether it was caused by events outside the track. He asked for our help to determine this in which a pair of redundant servers currently ensures high availability.

Solution

We used band reference metrics and used a unique algorithm to determine the location of the noise. One of our interesting tasks was to ensure that track maintenance tasks performed directly in addition to the noise measuring devices (grass mowing, movement of maintenance workers with machines) could be filtered out of the actual event data using a stable process. The evaluation was further complicated by the influence of the weather (stormy wind, rain) on the values provided by the measuring instruments. With our system, the official data service – minutes – can be generated immediately and we managed to take this burden off the shoulders of our client.
